Thank you Krissy. This is just the reminder I needed right now. I’ve been working at “keeping my baby goat safe” for the past several weeks before I had your language around it.
I love the list of things keeping you grounded and will be making my own list shortly including that I’ve gotten back to my own art over the past few months. Creating, actually creating not work, is when I feel most at ease so even on the busiest of days I am making time for daily drawing again. I need to stick with it this time.
I'm so glad you're back to your art! It is always there for us. Getting (re)started can be challenging, almost every time, but the act of creation generally moves us in a good direction. Might you share some of your daily drawings on Substack? I'd like to see them. :)
Oh! I loved this one as much as the Amazon one. Not just the excellent content but your timing. You wrote about Amazon right after I quit (it’s going great!). And now, I just read this piece after a really, really fucking stressful day. I have c-PTSD also and it is very triggered right now as my estranged brother is actively dying (far away) and, of course, it’s stirring up a whole lot. Over decades of daily practice I have trained myself slowly but cumulatively very well to use many of the things you listed to stay grounded and mentally healthy. But today? Today I was a wreck. So it was extra excellent to have you explain all these things I really needed to remember right now. Thank you. Also you are welcome to come meet Baby Ethan any time and, if you want, you can get some quiet soothing you time in the Tiny Chapel of Kindness.
I'm so sorry Spike, that's really rough. When I can't keep calm and the big feelings come, I can feel them with courage and self-compassion. I wish that for you. Big hug. Thank you so much for supporting my writing, that means a lot coming from a pro! Baby Ethan & Tiny Chapel of Kindness forever!
